Essex and Wales collide when Gavin and Stacey fall for each other, taking their friends, family and baggage with them. With the exception of the walls shot on location in London in the first episode, the entire series was filmed in Wales, including the walls in Essex. The house used by the Shipmans (Gavin family) is in Dinas Powys, a village 1 mile north-west of Barry, where the Wests (Stacey family) live. In the third season, Bryn and Gavin’s cars have completely different registration numbers than in the previous series. Gavin’s blue Saxo changed from a T-reg (1999 model year) to an X-reg (2000 model year). Brin’s green Picasso changed from CV02 (model year 2002, registered in Cardiff) to HV54 (model year 2004, registered in Portsmouth). Obviously, these are different cars. I have to say that I don’t quite understand the previous reviewer, as I believe that they are on a different planet than everyone else, and I felt the need to clarify the situation. “Gavin and Stacey” is one of the best comedies I’ve seen in years. It has a wonderful cast and a brilliantly written script by Ruth Jones and James Cordon. The show revolves around Gavin (a guy from Essex) and Stacey (secretaries from Barry Island) who start their relationship over the phone while they are at work. Reviews of the series were so good that a second season was already ordered.
