When a dark threat from his childhood comes back to haunt him, a father desperately battles his deepest fears. Only this time, he’s not fighting for himself, but for his family. This is the first PG-13 horror film to bear the Lionsgate Red Gears logo since 2012’s The Secret of the Dead. Patrick McKee: Ever since we moved back, I’ve been all excited about Jake getting kidnapped. “Take it, man” would be another summary headline I could have used – maybe it would have been even more fitting for my tagline (no pun intended)! But that being said, the horror film may have some flaws (I’ll get into some of them), but it also has some really good sound design! Some might call what happens jump scares (and that’s not entirely wrong), but there’s more to it than that. The acting is OK, maybe even decent. The story and the flaws, or rather logic issues… they’re pretty big! Then again, there is a bit of a twist towards the end of the film – it could reveal a lot more unthinkable stuff… and you might think even less of certain scenes leading up to it… but try not to question the characters’ motives and/or actions. That being said, this is a horror film, so the characters will do things you won’t agree with… in the end, we have to move on (whether we like it or not – and yes, that’s an intentional pun).
